Biography: Zigang (Gary) Xu is a second-year student at UCLA, double majoring in Business Economics and Cognitive Science. With a strong interdisciplinary interest in decision-making, institutional design, and financial systems, he has consistently challenged himself with UCLA’s most rigorous coursework. He has always achieved excellence in his economics classes.

Professionally, he has interned at both a private equity firm and the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. He gained firsthand exposure to market research, due diligence, and legal research. These experiences have helped him bridge quantitative analysis with real-world impact, which sharpens his understanding of both financial strategy and the justice system. He is also actively involved in UCLA’s Global Entrepreneur Society and Bruin Political Review. Outside of academics and work, you may find him playing and watching basketball, golf, and soccer. With a background that blends education with an international perspective, he has visited over 25 countries and is passionate about cultural storytelling and systems thinking.

Future Plans: Gary is driven by a deep interest in the intersection of economic policy, legal institutions, and strategic decision-making. He plans to work in management or economic consulting right after graduation, where he can further develop his analytical skills and contribute to real-world problem solving. In the long term, he will pursue a Juris Doctor degree and enter the legal profession. He strives to become a litigator at the intersection of policy and law. In addition, he is passionate about sports management and hopes to one day combine his expertise with sports, shaping policies and strategies in an industry that has long inspired him.
