The Board of Visitors plays a key role in helping UCLA’s Department of Economics retain and enhance its position as one of the premier Departments and leaders in the field of Economics. As a result of the Board’s help and support we will continue to build upon the Department’s successes to reach the long-term goal of becoming the top economics department within a public university, and one of the top departments in the United States.
The relationship between the Board and the Department is a true partnership. We benefit from the leadership and expertise of the Board, and the Board has access to one of the best and broadest economics faculties in the country. The Board’s activities not only help develop the human and financial resources to build the Department’s prominence and stature, but they also advance UCLA’s broader mission of retaining its position as one of the world’s best universities and reaching out to the community.
With Board members’ deep understanding and knowledge of the Department, they are best positioned to communicate its needs to community leaders who can support the Department with financial and professional resources. Members serve as liaisons to the professional and business communities to help students secure internships and other career development opportunities. They secure financial resources from the private sector to promote excellence within the Department, provide information to faculty and students on trends in the business and financial communities, and offer feedback and direction to undergraduate and graduate students about their educational and working experiences.
We are grateful to the Board of Visitors for their commitment to the Department.
