Biography: Jamie Galvan is a third-year student studying Business Economics and a minor in Accounting. She was born in California and raised by two immigrant parents from Mexico, with a passion in accounting. At UCLA, Jamie has devoted most of her time in volunteering activities such as being a Center for Accessible Education (CAE) notetaker where she created and shared detailed class notes for students with disabilities. She also has spent her time as a tutor for the Bruins for Accessible Education (BAE) club, where she has tutored elementary school students at Mar Vista Family Center. Additionally, with her passion in accounting, she has helped low-income individuals in Los Angeles as a volunteer tax preparer in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). She is also a member in Alpha Chi Omega, a sorority that is passionate about spreading domestic violence awareness. Outside of school, Jamie loves collecting vinyl records, listening to the Beatles, and going to concerts with her friends.

Future Plans: Jamie’s current career goals are to complete the necessary education and experience requirements to qualify as a Certified Public Accountant, as well as studying for her CPA exam. She would like to have a career as an accountant for any of her favorite popular companies. She is also considering continuing her educational journey by going to graduate school for her Master’s in accounting.

What this scholarship means to me: First of all, I want to express my sincerest gratitude to the Bruce Family for gifting the Patricia and Harry L. Bruce Endowed Scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year. As a first-generation student, this scholarship is a blessing for not just myself, but for my parents as well, who have been paying for my entire educational journey here at UCLA. This scholarship is further proof that I deserve to be here at UCLA.
