The UCLA Department of Economics Summer Precollege Focus Series is designed for advanced high school students who are 15 years of age or older who want to gain an academically challenging college-level experience in economics, finance, and data analysis. Students learn directly from UCLA Economics faculty in an immersive environment on one of the world’s top university campuses, gaining a competitive edge for college applications and future careers in business, finance, and technology.

Summer 2026 Programs — Applications Now Open | Deadline: June 12, 2026

Introduction to Investments — In-Person July 13 – July 31, 2026 A three-week program covering financial markets, stock ownership, the Federal Reserve, personal investing, venture capital, and careers in finance. No prior economics or math background required. Earn 4 units of UCLA college credit.

Introduction to Investments — Virtual July 13 – July 31, 2026 Same curriculum as the in-person program, offered fully online. All sessions in Pacific Daylight Time. No prior economics or math background required. Earn 4 units of UCLA college credit.

Principles of Economics — In-Person June 22 – July 10, 2026 A three-week program analyzing economic data, policy issues, international trade, and real-world case studies. Basic algebra skills required. Earn 4 units of UCLA college credit.

Python for Economics and Finance — Virtual June 22 – July 10, 2026 A three-week introduction to Python programming applied to financial data analysis and visualization. No prior coding experience required. Earn 4 units of UCLA college credit.

All Programs Require:

  • 9th–12th grade students (must be 15+ by June 22, 2026)
  • Minimum 3.2 GPA
  • Unofficial transcript, value statement, and short essay
  • Scholarships available for California students — apply by April 1, 2026
