Biography: Ling Shi is a third-year student majoring in Business Economics with a minor in Accounting. As a relatively new immigrant, she has spent the past four years adapting to life in the United States, embracing its cultural diversity while striving to build a meaningful connection with her community.
Determined to integrate into American society, Ling actively engaged in volunteer work, collaborating with local churches and food banks to address food insecurity among residents. Through these experiences, she not only gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by underserved populations but also formed lasting friendships with people from different backgrounds. Her journey as an immigrant has shaped her resilience and adaptability, qualities she carries with her as she continues to grow both personally and professionally.
Future Plans: Inspired by her family—particularly her entrepreneurial mother and several female relatives working in accounting—Ling Shi has set her sights on becoming a certified public accountant and eventually establishing her own accounting firm.
She plans to graduate in June 2026 with her bachelor’s degree in Business Economics and a minor in Accounting. To strengthen her expertise, Ling intends to pursue an MBA after graduation. Before beginning her graduate studies, she aims to pass the CPA exam, ensuring she has both the credentials and practical knowledge to excel in the field.
What this scholarship means to me: Receiving this scholarship is an immense honor—it’s my first university award, and it holds deep meaning for me. Beyond financial relief, it represents validation of my academic achievement and a vote of confidence in my potential.
This support alleviates the burden of living expenses, allowing me to focus wholeheartedly on my studies without constant financial strain. More importantly, it reinforces my belief in giving back. Just as this generosity empowers me today, I’m determined to pay it forward—by mentoring future accountants, advocating for women in finance, and eventually supporting students like myself through scholarships of my own.
This award isn’t just funding my education; it’s fueling my commitment to turn opportunity into impact. For that, I’m profoundly grateful.
