Biography: Edward is a second-year student studying Business Economics and Mathematics. Born in New Jersey and raised in Wisconsin, he chose UCLA in order to broaden his perspective and study under world-renowned faculty. Ever curious, he is an avid reader, engaging with subjects ranging from classical antiquity to modern geopolitics. On campus, he is a member of Bruin Reserve Bank and a student assistant at the Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library. In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball at the John Wooden Center and engaging in outdoor activities.

Future Plans: Edward seeks to pursue a doctoral degree in economics post-graduation, with the ultimate aim of becoming an economist in academia and/or a non-governmental organization such as the World Bank. He intends to conduct fieldwork in developing countries and apply his mathematical and statistical knowledge to investigate the root causes of poverty, long-run drivers of economic growth, and how to optimally design incentive structures. It is his hope that these efforts will have a tangible impact on both government policy and individual lives.

What this scholarship means to me: I am honored to be recognized as the Patricia and Harry L. Bruce Endowed Scholarship recipient for the 2025-2026 academic year. To me, this recognition adds fuel to the fire that drives me to excel in my academic and professional pursuits every day. Keeping with UCLA’s mission to serve society through interdisciplinary scholarship, my ultimate goal is to refine and optimize policies so as to better promote the well-being of people around the world. The support of the donors, along with that of so many others, will pave the path for me to chase that dream. For that I am forever grateful.
