Biography: Eden Talman is a passionate, outgoing academic from the Bay Area, currently pursuing a double major in Business Economics and Statistics & Data Science and a minor in Mathematics. He loves working with other people and deeply connects with anything quantitative, guiding his exploration and connection with economics, mathematics, and social sciences.

Having explored many interests in academics, sports, and beyond, he is most passionate about creativity and storytelling. He loves music and playing piano, has acted in many shows, enjoys various television shows, and has written scripts. Put generally, human expression is at the core of who he is and of utmost importance to him. For that reason, his personal dreams about entertainment and storytelling, along with his professional dreams of working with others and doing quantitative work, align perfectly with the city of Los Angeles and with UCLA as a school! UCLA has always been his dream school, so he is beyond grateful for the opportunity to be here!

Future Plans: Post graduation, Eden is looking to pursue a master’s degree in economics, but his many passions could take him in a bunch of different directions! A career in the quantitative/investment financial industry or consulting would be right up his alley, his passion for economics has him considering a PhD in the subject, a dual degree J.D./M.B.A. would explore his strengths and interests in both law and business, and becoming a professor in economics, mathematics, business, or law has been on the table for his long-term plans. At his core, though, lie passions for acting and the cinematic entertainment, which he wishes to pursue alongside his professional career.

At the bottom line, Eden’s journey is still to be decided and can go in some quite distinct directions. Regardless of what he ends up doing, he knows two things: that a master’s degree in economics is the first step on whatever path he takes, and that he will enjoy whatever it is that ends up coming his way!

What this scholarship means to me: This scholarship means a lot to me, because it is the only time I managed to put into words exactly what I wished to share about the person I believe myself to be. I finally put my heart and mind into writing, and someone saw value in what I had to say!

This scholarship is the most generous financial gift I will ever be given, and I will be forever thankful for the monumental, long-term impact that has on my time at UCLA and beyond. Alongside the most generous financial assistance, I also gained something priceless: the ability to remind myself that people read what I had to say about who I am and saw value in my words, achievements, and identity; that I am someone worthy of recognition. At a very pivotal phase in my life, I have the Patricia and Harry L. Bruce Endowed Scholarship Fund donors to thank for their interest in me, for recognizing the person that I am, and for financially and personally supporting the person I will become.
