Biography: Ashley Hinkel is a rising junior from Acton, California, studying Business Economics and minoring in Statistics and Data Science at UCLA. She is a William F. Sharpe Fellow with diverse internship experience across public finance, wealth management, commercial banking, hedge funds, and private equity. Ashley serves as Vice President of Bruins in Finance and Banking, where she helps lead professional development initiatives and connects students with industry opportunities. She is passionate about macroeconomics and personal finance. 

Future Plans: Ashley Hinkel will be spending her sophomore summer participating in, Girls Who Invest, a program where she will receive intensive on-site training in investment management and financial modeling. Following the program, she will intern at TPG in San Francisco, gaining hands-on experience in private equity and deepening her understanding of long-term investment strategies and portfolio management. Next summer, Ashley will be joining Barclays in New York as a Sales and Trading summer analyst, where she looks forward to working in a fast-paced market environment, building expertise through their rotational program. After graduation, she plans to pursue a full-time role in Sales and Trading, with the goal of growing her career as a fixed income trader. 

What this scholarship means to me: I am truly honored and thankful to receive the Donald Edward Bragg & Diane Sims Bragg scholarship, as it represents both recognition of my hard work and an investment into my future. As someone who is solely responsible for funding my education, this support lifts a significant burden off my shoulders and allows me to focus more fully on my academic and professional development. It also reassures me that the time and energy I’ve dedicated to my goals thus far is meaningful and valued. This scholarship will help me pursue opportunities that build upon my passions without the added stress of financial limitations, allowing me to make the most of my time at UCLA. I’m deeply grateful for the belief this award places in me, and I will continue to strive to live up to it through the work I do now and in the future.
