Biography: Angie Sun is a third-year student with majors in Business Economics and Statistics & Data Science, as well as a minor in Accounting. She is passionate about the intersection of data analytics and accounting, seeking to leverage her accounting background with data science in the hopes of discovering new financial insights for individuals and companies alike. She is constantly on the lookout for opportunities to learn and grow, both academically and personally. Angie is an organization ambassador for the UCLA Alumni Scholars Club (ASC), where she introduces prospective UCLA students to ASC’s scholarships and network on a seasonal basis. She has also been involved in UCLA DataRes, where she learned about modern data analytics methods and applied her gained knowledge to a culminating project. In addition, Angie is active in Beta Alpha Psi, where she regularly engages with accounting professionals to broaden her industry network, obtaining key financial insights from professor workshops, and enjoying the company of her peers. In her free time, Angie loves to read, watch dramas, and explore the outdoors.
Future Plans: Angie plans to obtain her CPA license after graduation to become a Certified Public Accountant. She knows how central it is to having healthy finances for an organization. She hopes to enter the accounting industry as an auditor, where she will apply her data and financial knowledge to the real-world and assist clients in ensuring fiscal compliance and financial security. She has a steadfast commitment to using the power of accounting to help individuals achieve financial well-being and stability. Angie aspires to become an accounting manager or perhaps open her own financial consulting firm.
What this scholarship means to me: I am sincerely grateful to have received the Professor Harry Simons Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship for the Study of Accounting. I would like to express my utmost gratitude to the donors of this award and to Professor Harry Simons. To me, this award gives me an immense sense of validation and encouragement, recognizing and rewarding my continuous hard work, perseverance, and commitment to both my studies and extracurricular activities. This scholarship has provided me with significant financial assistance, which I am most thankful for. However, more importantly, this award has further empowered me to reach for my aspiration of entering the accounting field. It enables me to fully dedicate myself to pursuing the courses and experiences necessary for CPA licensure, alleviating a substantial part of the financial obligations that come with such an endeavor. I will continue to strive for excellence and hope to drive positive financial impacts in my future accounting career. Once again, I am deeply thankful for this award.
