Biography: Hamish Buran is currently a junior at UCLA studying Business Economics and pursuing a minor in Musicology. After growing up in Los Angeles, California, Hamish chose to remain close to home and attend UCLA due to its tremendous academic reputation, along with its incomparable student environment, sports teams, and facilities. While at UCLA, Hamish has participated in many extracurricular activities and organizations, including his tenure as the Director of Career Development at the Undergraduate Business Society, Vice-President of Scholars of Finance, Associate in Bruin Value Investing, Member of Best Buddies International Organization, and participant in plenty of intramural sports teams. Outside of academics, Hamish enjoys playing many activities including piano, electric guitar, watching sports, swimming at the beach, soccer, golf, pickleball, and spending time with friends and family.

Future Plans: Following his junior year, Hamish Buran will spend his summer in New York City working at Morgan Stanley within their Global Industrials Investment Banking team. Upon completion of the internship, he will hopefully receive a full-time return offer to resume work at the firm after graduation from UCLA. After several years in the investment banking industry, Hamish plans to work in the field of private equity before eventually entering into the entrepreneurial world through his own ventures.

What this scholarship means to me: I am incredibly grateful and honored to have received the John J. Peterson Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year. Scholarships have been the primary reason for my ability to continue my education at UCLA, and I am very appreciative of them. Going into my senior year is a very strange concept, as it feels as though college has flown by in the blink of an eye. However, because of scholarships, I have been able to comfortably navigate the school and gain all of the experiences, education, and friendships that I possibly could during my time at this university.
